AI Coding Tools Digest: Week 26 2026 (Jun 22–28)

⚡ TL;DR

  • Claude Code had the busiest week (6 releases) with new shell routing controls and hook matcher fixes; Codex CLI brought MCP tool search by default and a new credits redemption flow.
  • Velocity is up +17% week-over-week — 21 releases vs. 18 last week. The ecosystem is not slowing down.

  • 📦 This Week's Releases

    Claude Code — 6 releases (v2.1.186–v2.1.195)

The busiest tool this week. Key additions: a new CLAUDECODEDISABLEMOUSECLICKS env var to kill mouse input in fullscreen mode (scroll still works), a autoMode.classifyAllShell setting to run all Bash/PowerShell through the auto-mode classifier, and a fix for hook matchers that were breaking on hyphenated identifiers like code-reviewer. Lots of small-but-sharp quality-of-life work here.

    OpenAI Codex CLI — 4 releases (rust-v0.142.0–v0.142.3)

MCP tools now use tool search by default when supported — big deal for discovery ergonomics. macOS auth client improvements also landed. v0.142.3 was maintenance only. See the Highlight Deep Dive below.

    Antigravity CLI — 3 releases (v1.0.11–v1.0.13)

Two notable changes: a bugfix stopping skill commands from briefly rendering without their / prefix during optimistic UI updates, and new --project / --new-project launch flags for explicit project targeting.

    GitHub Copilot CLI — 2 releases (v1.0.64–v1.0.65)

/cd now persists the working directory across session resumes and auto-discovers custom agents in the new path. Also: symlink targets now show in path access prompts, and pay-as-you-go budget is surfaced at launch.

    Kiro CLI — 2 releases (v2.9.0–v2.10.0)

v2.10.0 is the headline: agent and MCP configs now reconcile live on save — no restart required. Huge friction reduction for custom agent authors. v2.9.0 fixed Entra ID session expiration and approval prompt loops for compound shell commands.

    Devin Desktop — 2 releases (v3.2.28–v3.3.18)

ACU usage is now displayed directly in the client. Visibility into consumption is always welcome.

    Gemini CLI — 1 release (v0.49.0)

Primarily a version bump and CI/dependabot maintenance. Quiet week for Google's entry.

    Cursor — 1 release (v3.9)

Tagged as "Customize Cursor" — details sparse, but a major version tick suggests UI/personalization changes are coming into focus.

    🔍 Highlight Deep Dive

Codex CLI rust-v0.142.0 is the release to watch. Beyond MCP tool search, the /usage command got a full upgrade: you can now view and redeem earned usage-limit reset credits directly from the CLI, complete with confirmation dialogs, retry logic, and live availability refresh. That's a meaningful workflow improvement for teams hitting rate limits mid-session — no more context-switching to a browser dashboard. The /plugins view also got reorganized for clearer remote plugin management. Small surface area, real daily impact.
