Gemini CLI — May 2026 Releases

7 releases in May 2026.

What's new in Gemini CLI, May 2026

Gemini CLI tightens workspace trust and shell safety, merges Auto modes, adds Gemma 4

Gemini CLI's May 2026 releases focused on security and permissions: headless mode now enforces workspace trust and loads .env files more securely, and shell command validation gained a core tools allowlist. Seven releases shipped, from v0.41.0 to v0.44.1.

Other changes include experimental support for Gemma 4 models, faster boot by fetching experiments and quota asynchronously, and a single merged Auto mode in v0.44.0. Shell redirections are now auto-approved in AUTOEDIT mode, and v0.43.0 allows redirection in YOLO and AUTOEDIT modes without sandboxing. Fixes covered a hard crash on loop detection, OAuth refresh token handling, keychain auth for --list-sessions and non-interactive mode, a chat corruption bug in the context manager, and automatic updates switching to less stable channels. The v0.41.1, v0.41.2 and v0.44.1 releases were patch cherry-picks, and the notes give no detail on their contents beyond that.
